Here is a topic that has been beaten and spun beyond recognition in the minds of those who do not understand our Republic. No other country in the world has the out-of-control illegal immigration problem we have in the US. Now that some in our government hint at resolving our immigration problem, how do we correct decades of irresponsible neglect by both Democrats and Republicans?
At this point it is irrelevant to debate the selfish and un-patriotic reasons both Parties tacitly accepted illegals in our midst. It is also irrelevant for illegal immigrants to claim they have a voice in this matter. Why? The first thing we must all understand is that our Republic was purposefully structured to uphold the rule of law. Therefore, any person that did not enter the United States legally is subject to criminal sanctions and expulsion. It is now time for American citizens and our government to resolve this festering problem once and for all.
I would like to state at the outset that illegal immigration is not a uniquely “Mexican” issue. However, Mexicans have been made the poster-child of this movement. The radical Aztlan or Reconquista Movement and their fellow travelers, La Raza, have contributed to make this so. Our nation has turned a blind eye to illegal immigration from Communist China, Cuba, and the Middle East (among others) through Latin America to our shores. Forged documents and government payoffs have made sure that we now enjoy a truly international array of criminals and others who have no idea what our Constitution is, much less what it represents. These foreigners retain the political and social cultural traits of their countries of origin and settle for the abuse of the system established for our fellow citizens. They knowingly violate US law.
Aside from the recent wave of illegal immigrants from terror sponsoring Middle East nations, those from the Orient and Central America (and primarily Mexico and El Salvador) bring us organized criminal activity in the way of gangs and the illegal drug trade. These compete and make worse the problems we have with our domestic variety of “One Percenter” criminal biker clubs, Bloods, Crypts etcetera. To keep up with the flood of criminal activity law enforcement focuses on the little fish and plea bargains with the more astute of this criminal element.
Police gang unit efforts to “work with” criminal gangs have not reduced or eliminated gang activity; I view it as appeasement on their part. Hispanic and Oriental gangs are often generational and a source of family pride. Our ghettos, lousy public schools, prison system and lukewarm economy create a perfect breeding ground for freelance gang-bangers. Most of us are in denial because we don’t see the problem in our neighborhoods. Yet we are quick to harshly criticize Arizona where the Department of Homeland Security has posted signs warning Americans to stay out of a major National Park there. We’ve tried nice and nice does not work. Well-intended charity and brotherly love does nothing but empower and embolden the criminal aliens on our soil. Criminals, tyrants, terrorists and others of their ilk only respect strength. These criminals are highly likely to assist the enemies of the US for a quick buck.
There is nothing romantic about a criminal lifestyle yet genres of music and video games, TV programming, the news and movie producers glorify it. Liberals loudly advocate non-violence yet our media is built on sex and violence. Too many Americans equate personal value with material possessions. Sports are no longer about sportsmanship but victory at all costs. Our popular culture has brought back the clamoring crowds of the Roman Coliseum.
In each instance we chip away at a necessary respect for life. Advocates of licentiousness and social disorder claim a right under the First Amendment yet we have all missed the point. Sometimes strictly legal behavior can be considered inappropriate or inconsiderate. Discernment in the latter case requires an unselfish sense of empathy and good manners. Behavior that goes against community standards and is not lawful or infringes on the accepted ethical/moral standards of others should not be tolerated. But, let me be clear, this is not a government or law enforcement issue; it is a community issue. As long as we remain a stranger to others around us we will be plagued by the unacceptable.
As Americans we have done much to help other nations, sometimes too much. Charity and disaster relief are to be recognized and admired but it is not our duty to resolve the internal problems of other nations. It is not our responsibility to harbor those who have no allegiance to the US. It is our duty and our responsibility to control our borders and our communities. To do this we must get rid of the illegal immigration problem once and for all. The illegal immigrants’ contribution to crime and unrest and their net burden on the public treasury is unsustainable and repulsive.
If we can properly criticize Muslims for not denouncing and working against “the radical fringe” then we can criticize US citizens who fail to denounce and work against illegal immigration. The solution is not to reward illegal behavior and we must recognize that for decades our elected leaders failed to fulfill their responsibilities. The Executive Branch has failed to uphold the law.
What about those hard-working and decent illegals? The operative word is illegal. On a personal level I’m sure they are nice and decent. However, they are a corruptive influence in our society. They drive down wages and promote corruption. They rely on false documents and phony social security cards for employment. In short, they broke the law and abuse our system. They can be nice where they came from and, as a tourist, I’ll go visit them there.
My humble solution will be presented in my next posting.
